CALL FOR PAPERS

The Organising Committee for Velo Mondial 2006 invites all potential delegates to present a paper in the Marketplace Sessions. Please submit an abstract for consideration by the Technical Committee.

Abstracts can be submitted electronically using the form found here.

THE MARKETPLACE CONCEPT

A New Idea
The Marketplace Sessions are a new and exciting format promising a vibrant and interactive alternative to traditional conference workshops and poster presentations. We invite you to send in your ideas, projects and visions – and to be part of Velo Mondial 2006.

Format
The Marketplace Sessions will be a "forum for ideas", encouraging interaction between presenters and delegates in a free-flowing environment. The open-sided Marketplace Stalls accommodate the presenter and the audience in an intimate space that encourages discussion and the sharing of ideas. In this more informal environment, presenters and delegates will have more opportunities to interact with each other, a wider range of topics can be included for discussion, and more presenters can be accommodated.

Each 90 minute Marketplace Session is an opportunity for delegates to choose from many simultaneous presentations. This democratic space for ideas offers an exceptional opportunity for broad participation, and delegates will be able to move freely between Marketplace Stalls, picking up on topics that are of interest to them. The intimate space means presenters and the audience are on the same level, promoting communication and a more effective sharing of information.

  • Presentations must be 20 minutes long.
  • Presenters are invited to create visual material and/or provide handouts. Facilities will be available within each Marketplace Stall for these to be displayed. While at this stage we only require your 300 word abstract, each selected presenter will be encouraged to think of ways to make their oral presentation interesting and their material visually attractive.
  • To encourage debate and interaction, presentations should be made without the aid of electronic audio/visual equipment (including data projectors, overhead projectors, PA systems, etc – these will not be available).

Marketplace Topics
The following are the 5 Marketplace Session topics, with suggested paper themes below each topic. The themes are included here by way of illustration. Abstracts for papers on other topics will be considered, provided they are meaningful within the context of the conference.

2. Facilities for Cycling
